The US Has Effectively Lost the War Against Iran Alone – Now It Needs Allies’ Help to Avoid Total Retreat

Ten days into the US-Israeli air and missile campaign against Iran, the situation looks increasingly grim from the American perspective. While the United States and Israel have destroyed a large portion of Iran’s navy and missile production capacity, Iran’s ability to continue launching massive missile and drone barrages has not been broken. US losses and resource depletion have reached the point where the country is effectively losing this war on its own – and without significant external help, it may be forced into a humiliating retreat from the Persian Gulf.

Why the US Is Effectively Losing Alone

1. Missile and Air-Defense Stocks Nearly Exhausted The United States and its allies (especially Gulf states) have expended hundreds of Patriot, THAAD, and Arrow interceptors to counter Iranian salvos. Production capacity cannot keep up – the US manufactures roughly 500 Patriot missiles per year, but the war consumes hundreds per week. Stocks are already critically low, with resupply not expected for weeks.
2. Heavy Naval Losses The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier is severely damaged and has withdrawn for repairs. The USS Abraham Lincoln has taken multiple hits, and at least 4–6 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers have suffered serious damage. Iran has managed to damage or cripple more than 10 US Navy vessels – far more than anyone anticipated.
3. Iran Has Not Collapsed Iran continues daily missile and drone attacks. Its stockpiles appear to be depleting more slowly than those of the US and its allies. Iran has also partially closed the Strait of Hormuz, driving oil prices above $110 per barrel.
4. The United States Is Alone Although France, the UK, and Germany have sent air-defense systems and ships, they are not participating in direct offensive operations. NATO has not activated Article 5, and no European country has deployed ground troops or combat aircraft into the fight. Russia and China support Iran with intelligence and weapons but remain out of direct combat.

Now Allies’ Help Is Needed – Or Full Retreat Looms

The United States has begun urgently requesting missile and ammunition resupplies from allies. If stocks run out before Iran’s ability to launch new salvos is depleted, the US faces only three realistic options:

• Use tactical nuclear weapons (rumors are already spreading strongly)
• Request substantial military assistance from Europe and other allies (ground troops, fighters, additional ships)
• Begin a full-scale retreat from the Persian Gulf – which would be a devastating diplomatic and military defeat

Without meaningful external support, the United States cannot sustain this war for much longer. Iran’s resilience and counterstrike capability have proven far greater than expected, and the US is being left to fight – and lose – alone.
