Crowds gathered outside the London headquarters of the BBC on Wednesday as a man scaled the facade of the building and appeared to break a statue there with a hammer.
Bystanders photographed the man vandalising the statue with some asking him to stop. The statue was created by controversial sculptor Eric Gill, who allegedly sexually abused two of his daughters.
Damage was visible to the legs of the child depicted in the statue, and the genitals had also been smashed off. The man was later arrested and taken into custody.
