Panic-buyers queue at petrol stations amid fuel shortage concerns

Residents were seen queueing at a petrol station in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, amid concerns that a lack of lorry drivers is leading to nationwide fuel shortages.

Traffic outside the station ground to a halt as panic-buyers waited to fill up their vehicles, with cones placed at the entrance, seemingly to restrict entry.

On Thursday, a shortage of lorry drivers forced oil company BP to close several of its locations, prompting many to stock up on the fuel.

Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced plans for a temporary visa scheme to ease entry by foreign lorry drivers into UK, up until Christmas 2021.
