Robo-COVID test aims to speed up process and protect health workers

Fujita Medical University in Toyoake installed an automated robotic system for COVID-19 PCR testing, as filmed on Wednesday.

Its creators hope that it could help reduce the exposure to the virus among health workers.

With the robot’s help specialists only need to collect samples and place them within the mechanism’s container.

“The system automates all the procedures after putting samples into the machine. The new system is capable of handling up to 1,250 samples a day,” said Professor Ito Hiroyasu.

The PCR robotic system, which was built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, is housed in a mobile shipping with a potential for quick deployment.
