First flurries hit Big Apple as NYC braces for monster snowstorm

First flurries blanketed New York City late on Sunday as the so-called Orlena storm is set to hit the Big Apple with heavy snow and strong winds on Monday and Tuesday Several plough workers removed the snow accumulated in the streets as others cleared the snow away from the pavements with shovels.

“It’s the first time I see snow, and hope this will continue because I have to work and if it continues, I will not have to go.

I’m enjoying this a lot,” passerby Juan Carlos said with a smile.

New York City and Southern New York State remain under a winter storm warning red alert from 19:00 Sunday to 06:00 on Tuesday.

Citizens were urged to stay at home during the storm with all non-essential travel restricted beginning at 06:00 am Monday.
