Joe Biden and Kamala Harris inaugurated as US President and Vice President

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are inaugurated as the 46th President and Vice President of the United States in Washington DC on Wednesday, January 20.

The inauguration will take place with multiple restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with a traditional luncheon being cancelled and people discouraged from traveling to DC for the ceremony.

Biden and Harris will take the office as the country is battling the devastating pandemic, and following a violent storming of the US Capitol by the supporters of the outgoing president Donald Trump during the session to ratify the victory in the presidential elections held in November.

EVENT SCHEDULE (subject to change):

15:00-19:00 GMT – Presidential Inauguration Ceremony: US President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in on the West front of the Capitol building, followed by an inaugural address by the new president.

– Pass In review: Biden, Harris and their spouses will take part in a Pass in Review with members of the military, on the East front.

19:00-20:00 GMT (approx) – Wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery: The president-elect and vice president-elect will then visit Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb f the Unknown Soldier, joined by former presidents and first ladies Barack and Michelle Obama, George W. and Laura Bush, and Bill and Hillary Clinton.

20:00-22:00 GMT – Presidential escort and parade across America: A presidential escort will accompany Biden from Arlington to the White House, followed by a televised “Parade Across America”.
