Four ‘miraculous rings’ with alleged healing properties were found in a small bag in the monastery of San Esteban de Ribas de Sil, in Ourense, as footage filmed on Wednesday shows.
The restoration works carried out in the building by the San Martin Centre of the Diocese of Ourense uncovered the rings that had disappeared centuries ago, along with the remains of nine bishops.
The disappearance of the rings had become a source of lament, and it was even said that they healed a girl who was blind since birth.
Julio Rodriguez Fernandez, the parish priest of Santo Estevo de Rivas del Sil, explained that “these rings had healing or miraculous properties and were distributed among the sick people, sometimes they even passed the rings through water, and that water that touched the rings were afterwards given to the sick people, and some were healed.”
According to legends, the nine bishops whose remains were also uncovered moved to the Santo Estevo de Ribas de Sil monastery, where they died and were buried between the 10th and 11th centuries.
Their rings, which were kept in a silver box, became famous for purportedly healing sick people.
