Nationalists clash with police on Polish Independence Day

Thousands of nationalist group members clashed with police as they marched to mark Poland’s Independence Day despite restrictions in central Warsaw, on Wednesday. The streets turned red as demonstrators lit red flares, waved Polish flags and chanted slogans. Flames could be seen in a nearby building’s window, which firefighters put out with a water cannon from the ground. Due to COVID-19, this year’s event largely took place in cars and on motorcycles, with police announcing that those who attend on foot were in breach of the law. Authorities did not grant permits for the gathering, as the government attempts to limit the spread of coronavirus, which broke new records in October. (ruptly.tv)
