Massive floods and waves as Typhoon Ulysses batters eastern coast

Heavy winds and waves battered the coastal areas of Polillo, Lopez and Quezon as typhoon Ulysses, also known as Vamco, hit the eastern coast of the Philippines, on Wednesday. Large waves could be seen battering she shore as winds shook palm trees in Calauag. One Lopez resident reported chest-high flooding in his area. Authorities ordered thousands of families to evacuate the east coast ahead of the typhoon making landfall. The Philippines’ 21st tropical cyclone in 2020 made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph (96 mph) near the centre and gusts reaching up to 255 kph (158 mph), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). By the evening, Ulysses hit the rice-producing provinces north of Manilla.
