Mass evacuation of Stepanakert residents continues amid alleged capture of Shushi

The evacuation of Stepanakert residents to Armenia continued on Saturday amid the alleged capture of the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region’s city of Shushi by the Azerbaijani army, according to reports. Footage from Saturday shows a traffic jam at the entry to Armenia’s Syunik Province. Wounded people were reported to continue to be delivered to the Republican Medical Centre after a shell explosion in the southern part of Stepanakert. Armenia has not officially reported on the evacuation. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Sunday that Shushi, the important strategic and cultural center of Nagorno-Karabakh, was under control of Azerbaijani troops. The official representative of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Artsrun Hovhannisyan, in turn, urged not to make conclusions about the situation in Shushi and noted that “the battles inside and around the city continue.” The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh continued despite a third, US-brokered humanitarian truce. The fighting is the heaviest in the region since the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh War in 1994. (ruptly.tv)
