Biden’s ancestral home Ballina celebrates his declared victory in US elex

Jubilant locals gathered in the Irish town of Ballina which shares an ancestral connection with US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, to celebrate as he declared victory in the US presidential election, Saturday. Amongst those celebrating next to a mural depicting Biden were his relatives with Joe Blewitt, Biden’s cousin, opening a sparkling wine bottle with family amidst cheers. Anthony Heffernan, a local business owner who was visited by Biden in 2016, said: “We’re going for Biden but it’s a very simple reason in that he’s been very good for Ballina and it’s very hard to get business to come out this way. And, you know, he alone has put the town on the map.” Joe Biden’s great-great-great-grandfather, Edward Blewit, left Ballina close to 200 years ago. On Saturday, several US media outlets declared that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential race, now becoming the president-elect. According to a text-statement released by President Donald Trump on the media announcement of the election results, his campaign intends to pose a legal challenge to the projected election victory, with no mention of the president conceding.
