Milan landmarks deserted as coronavirus curfew enforced

Milan’s usually busy streets near Corso Como, XXV April Square and Corso Garibaldi remained deserted after midnight on Wednesday, amid the curfew implemented to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Drone footage shows how even the heart of Milan’s nightlife has stopped beating since the government imposed a new curfew, with the normally bustling area around Milan’s iconic Duomo cathedral lying empty. The region of Lombardy declared a nightly curfew from 23:00 to 05:00 local time (22:00 to 04:00 GMT). The north of Italy is currently the area hardest hit by the pandemic, with Lombardy topping the list of regions with the highest number of cases registered in the peninsula. According to the latest figures, Lombardy accounts for at least 205,000 of the roughly 647,000 confirmed positive cases nationwide.(
