Historic Mille Miglia car race re-enactment reaches Rome

The latest edition of re-enactment of the historic Mille Miglia car race reached the Italian capital on Friday. Vintage cars drove down Rome’s Via Veneto to the delight of locals and tourists. Mille Miglia, translated as Thousand Miles, is a historic car race which took place between 1927 and 1957 before it was banned due to two fatal crashes. In its re-enactment drivers make a round-trip from Brescia to Rome via routes similar to the original ones. “It is a particular year. A special year. A difficult year. We want to show that things can be done even in a pandemic. In difficult moments, protocols must be put in place in the right way. We have to have results and we are showing it,” said Aldo Bonomi, president of the Automobile Club of Brescia. This year the event was restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic with mandatory masks required for both visitors and drivers. (Ruptly)
